What is Zymar used for?


Zymar is indicated in patients of 1 year of age and above for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis. It belongs to a group of medications known as fluoroquinolone antibiotics and works by killing bacteria that cause conjunctivitis. Use the eye drops exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual dose is one drop every two hours in the affected eye(s) while awake, up to 8 times daily during days 1 and 2. For days 3 to7, instill one drop four times daily, while awake.

What Are The Possible Side Effects of Zymar?


Some of the common side effects of Zymar may include eye irritation, eye pain, and eye redness decrease in vision, blurred vision, itching and watery eyes. Some of the serious side effects of this medication include allergic reaction, nausea, dizziness and sore throat. These are not all the possible side effects of Zymar. Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Zymar?


You may find that your vision is blurred for a short time just after you use Zymar. Do not drive or use machines until your vision is clear.

Zymar contains the preservative benzalkonium chloride. Benzalkonium chloride discolors soft contact lenses and may cause eye irritation. Do not use Zymar while wearing contact lenses. Remove your contact lenses before applying Zymar and wait at least 15 minutes after using the drops before putting your lenses back in.

Do not take Zymar if you are allergic to gatifloxacin, other quinolones or any other ingredients in the medication.

Before taking Zymar, inform your doctor if you:

• Are breastfeeding
• Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
• Wear contact lenses
