What is Zovirax Cold Sore Cream Used for?

Zovirax Cold Sore Cream (Acyclovir) is a prescription medication for treating Herpes simplex virus infections of the lips and face (recurrent herpes labialis). The active ingredient in Zovirax cream is Acyclovir. Acyclovir belongs to the class of drugs called antiviral (topical) drugs. Zovirax exerts its antiviral effect on herpes simplex viruses and varicella-zoster virus by interfering with DNA synthesis and inhibiting viral replication. By this mechanism, Zovirax slows the growth and spread of the herpes virus in the body. Zovirax Cold Sore Cream does not get rid of Herpes simplex virus infection from your body. It does, however, reduce the severity and duration of cold sore symptoms when they appear.
