This medicine does not treat viral infections. Use Zosyn exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Zosyn is for treatment of only bacterial infections and does not treat viral infections. Misuse could lead to the growth of bacteria that will not be killed by Zosyn (resistance). This medicine is an injectable antibiotic that contains piperacillin sodium and tazobactam sodium. Both ingredients work together to kill the bacteria and reduce the infection. Zosyn will be given to you intravenously by your doctor. Your doctor will give you the most appropriate dose based on the severity and type of your bacterial infection.

What Are The Possible Side Effects of Zosyn?


Some of the common side effects of Zosyn may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, rash, itchy or red skin, a new infection caused by bacteria that are resistant to Zosyn (superinfection), difficulty sleeping, headache, dizziness or light-headedness, anxiety, sweating, agitation, shortness of breath, abdominal pain or swelling, fever and pain. Some of the serious side effects of this medication include chest pain, diarrhea, confusion, convulsions, hallucinations, jaundice and allergic reactions. Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Zosyn?


Do not take Zosyn if you are allergic to piperacillin sodium/tazobactam sodium or any other ingredients in the medication or to penicillin, cephalosporin or beta-lactamase inhibitors.

• Have a history of diarrhea or bowel problems due to an antibiotic
