What is Zimed Used for?

Zimed (Bimatoprost) is a prescription medicine used to treat high pressure in the eye due to open-angle glaucoma or eye diseases like ocular hypertension. Pressure builds up in the eye when fluid does not drain out quickly enough. This can lead to glaucoma. The active ingredient in Zimed is Bimatoprost. Bimatoprost belongs to a class of drugs called prostamides. It works by increasing the amount of liquid drained from the eye to reduce pressure. Zimed is a preservative-free medicine that may be used on its own or in combination with other eye drops known as beta-blockers.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Zimed?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Zimed?

Before using this medication, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Zimed or have other problems when using Bimatoprost. It is crucial to continue using this medication exactly as your doctor prescribes. Zimed comes as an eye drop. Use this medication in the affected eye once daily in the evening. The recommended dose is one drop. Do not use more of this drug. It will not work well. If you use this drug with another eye medicine, wait at least 5 minutes between using Zimed and the other eye medicine. Wash your hands before applying the eye drop. Avoid touching the tip of the eye drop bottle to your eye to prevent contamination. If you wear contact lenses, take them out before using this medicine. Wait at least 15 minutes after each dose before putting the lenses back in. Throw away the bottle of Zimed at the latest 28 days after you first opened it, even if there are still some drops left. This will prevent infections. You can write down the day you opened the drug in the space on the box to help you remember. Your vision may be blurred for a short time just after using the Zimed solution. Do not drive or use machines until your sight is clear again. Do not stop using this medication without talking to your doctor. Stopping this drug suddenly may cause the pressure in your eye to increase.

You should not use Zimed and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Breathing problems;
• Cataract surgery;
• Eye problems like macular edema, iritis, or uveitis;
• Low blood pressure

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known if Zimed will harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding. It is not known if Bimatoprost passes into breast milk. The safety and effectiveness of Zimed in children below 12 years of age have not been established.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. There may be a drug interaction between Zimed and other drugs, such as:
• Other eye medications
