This medication works by blocking certain clotting proteins in your blood.

The common side effects include itching, muscle pain and pain in your arms or legs. The serious side effects may include:

• Bleeding from wounds or needle injections;
• Bloody or tarry stools;
• Easy bruising or bleeding;
• Headache, dizziness and weakness;
• Pain, swelling, or drainage from a wound;
• Urine that looks red, pink or brown

Are there any Precautions or Drug Interactions for Xarelto?


Do not take Xarelto if you are allergic to Rivaroxaban or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. Inform all your doctors or dentists that you take Rivaroxaban. This medication can cause bleeding. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or if you plan to become pregnant. This medication should only be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Asprin can increase the risk of bleeding when it is used with medication. If you are taking a low dose of Asprin for heart attack or stroke prevention, you should continue taking it unless your doctor tells you to stop. There may be a drug interaction between Xarelto and other medications such as amiodarone, apixaban, atorvastatin, carvedilol, clopidogrel, cyclosporine, diltiazem, imatinib, quinine, rifampin, etc. Xarelto dose 15mg and above should be taken with food to avoid stomach upset.

Xarelto Safety and Storage Information


Xarelto should be stored at room temperature away from light and moisture and out of reach of children and pets. This medication should not be stored in the bathroom.
