Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Videx?

Before taking Didanosine (Videx), you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or have any other allergies. You may develop lactic acidosis, a dangerous build-up of lactic acid in your blood. Call your doctor or get emergency medical help if you have unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, stomach pain, dizziness, cold, or feeling very weak or tired. It would be best to continue taking this medication (and other HIV medications) exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not skip any doses. Do not increase your dose, take this drug more often than prescribed, or stop taking it (or other HIV medicines) even for a short time unless directed to do so by your doctor. Videx is not the cure for HIV/AIDS. To decrease your risk of spreading HIV disease to others, continue to take all HIV medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Use an effective barrier method (latex or polyurethane condoms) during sexual activity as directed by your doctor.

You should not use Videx and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Chronic alcohol consumption or if you drink a large amount of alcohol;
• Kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis);
• Liver disease or pancreatitis (Videx can cause severe or life-threatening effects on your liver or pancreas);
• Numbness or tingling in your hands or feet, including Raynaud's syndrome

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, and use your medications properly to control your infection. HIV can be passed to your baby if the virus is not controlled during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, do not take Videx together with stavudine. This combination can be hazardous during pregnancy. Women with HIV or AIDS should not breastfeed a baby. Even if your baby is born without HIV, the virus may be passed to the baby in your breast milk.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements to prevent drug interactions, which might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' action. The following are some examples of drugs that may interact with Videx (Didanosine) capsules:
