What is Trileptal used for?


Trileptal is a medication used to treat partial seizures. It is classified as an anticonvulsant, or antiepileptic mediation because it works to decrease nerve impulses that cause seizures. This medication can be used to treat adults and children who are at least 4 years old, if it’s taken as a single medication. It can also be combined with other medications for adults and children over the age of two.

• Drowsiness;

Avoid becoming dehydrated while taking Trileptal, especially in hot weather or during exercise.

Some people have had suicidal thoughts while taking Trileptal. You may be required to have regular visits with your doctor to monitor your progress.

This medication may make birth control pills less effective. Use additional forms of birth control to prevent pregnancy while on Trileptal.

It isn’t currently known how Trileptal will affect an unborn infant. Do not start or stop taking Trileptal during pregnancy without your doctor’s advice. It can, however, pass through breast milk and it is not advised that a child be nursed while the mother is taking this medication.
