What Is Topicort Used For?

Topicort is a topical (for skin) steroid. It is used for the treatment of a number of skin conditions such as allergic reactions, skin rashes, itchiness, inflammation, psoriasis, and dermatoses. It acts by reducing the chemicals in the body that lead to inflammation.

What Are The Possible Side Effects Of Topicort?

Some of the common side effects of Topicort include burning sensation, itching, redness of the skin, changes in skin pigmentation, inflammation of hair follicles on the skin, skin infection with formation of pus, stretch marks, spider veins (broken or widened blood vessels on the surface of the skin), and skin atrophy. When this medication is used under occlusive dressings or bandages it can lead to softening and breaking of skin due to prolonged exposure to moisture, secondary infection, stretch marks, trapping of sweat beneath the skin, and excessive hair growth. Some other side effects of Topicort include adrenal suppression with prolonged use, cataract, and allergic reactions. These are not all the possible side effects of Topicort. In case of an unexpected effect, contact your healthcare professional right away.

Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Topicort?

Do not use this medication on broken, infected skin or open wounds. Do not use bandages on the areas where Topicort is applied as it can lead to excessive absorption of the steroid into the body and lead to unwanted side effects.
