Tafenoquine (Tafenoquine) is a prescription medicine used to prevent malaria. Malaria enters the body through the bite of a mosquito carrying malaria-causing parasites. The active ingredient in Tafenoquine is Tafenoquine. Tafenoquine belongs to a class of drugs called antimalarials. It works by killing the parasites that cause malaria.

Take this medication starting three days before you travel to an area with malaria, usually once daily for three days. While you are in the malarious area, take this medication usually once each week, starting seven days after the last daily dose you took. After you leave the malarious area, take the last dose of this medication seven days after the last dose you took while you were in the malarious area. Use protective clothing, insect repellents, and mosquito netting around your bed to prevent further mosquito bites that could cause malaria.

You should not use Tafenoquine and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Genetic enzyme deficiency called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency;
• Hemolytic anemia;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease;
• Mental or mood disorders such as psychosis, schizophrenia, or hallucinations

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Do not use this drug when pregnant because it can harm your unborn baby. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while taking Tafenoquine and for at least three months after your last dose. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Tafenoquine passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Do not breastfeed while using this drug and for at least three months after your last dose if your baby has G6PD deficiency or has not been tested for it. Tafenoquine is not safe for use in children below 16 years of age.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health.
