What is Saflutan Used for?

Saflutan (Tafluprost) is a prescription medicine used to treat open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension in adults. Both conditions are associated with increased pressure within your eye. Elevated eye pressure often results from fluid buildup inside your eye. Family history, age, diabetes, and smoking are risk factors for increased pressure in your eye. The active ingredient in Saflutan is Tafluprost. Tafluprost belongs to a class of drugs called prostaglandin analogs. It works by regulating the flow of fluid within the eye to maintain normal pressure.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Saflutan?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Discoloration of eyelashes;
• Eye irritation;
• Headache;
• Itching of the eye

Stop using Saflutan and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Blurred vision;
• Change in color of the iris;

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Saflutan?

Before using this medication, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Saflutan or have other problems when using Tafluprost. It is crucial to continue using this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Saflutan is an eyedrop. Do not swallow. Instill the recommended dose in your eye in the evening. Do not instill more drops or use them more often than as instructed by your doctor. Only use this drug in both eyes if your doctor tells you to. Always wash your hands before applying this medicine. If a drop misses your eye, try again. Wait at least 5 minutes between using Saflutan and other eye medications. Do not stop using this medication without talking to your doctor.

Your eye pressure will increase again if you stop using Saflutan. This may cause permanent injury to your eye. Saflutan may darken the color of the skin around the eyes. Wipe off any excess solution from the skin to reduce the risk of skin darkening. Avoid touching the tip of the eye drop bottle to your eye or with your fingers to prevent contamination. You may experience temporary blurry vision after applying the eye drops. Do not drive or use machinery until your vision is clear. You should not use Saflutan and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Asthma;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Other eye diseases including cataract or iritis

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known if Saflutan will harm an unborn baby. Use an effective birth control method to prevent pregnancy when using this drug. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding. It is unknown if Tafluprost passes into breast milk or if it may harm your nursing infant. The safety and effectiveness of Saflutan in children below 18 years has not been established.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. There may be a drug interaction between Saflutan and other drugs, such as:
• Other eye medications
