What is Rydapt used for?


Rydapt is used in combination with other chemotherapy treatments to treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in adults who have a new diagnosis of a defect in a gene called FLT3. A test will confirm if you have the FLT3 kind of AML. AML is a type of cancer of white blood cells. Rydapt is also used on its own in adults to treat diseases called as aggressive systemic mastocystosis (ASM), systemic mastocystosis with associated hematological neoplasm (SM-AHN), or mast cell leukemia (MCL). These are the disorders in which the body produces too many mast cells, a type of white blood cell. Symptoms are caused when too may mast cells infiltrate organs like the liver, bone marrow, and spleen or release substances like histamine in blood. This medicine blocks the action of some enzymes (kinases) of cells that are not normal. This stops their division and growth. It should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take Rydapt by mouth whole with a glass of water. Do not open, crush or chew the capsules. It should be taken twice a day at about 12 hours interval. Your doctor will give you medications to help prevent nausea and vomiting during treatment with Rydapt.

What Are The Possible Side Effects of Rydapt?


Some of the common side effects of Rydapt may include red or purple spots on skin, dry skin, excessive sweating, swelling of eyelid, eye pain, blurred vision, insomnia, throat pain, sore throat with runny nose, tremors, headache, dizziness, disturbance in attention, upper abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, pain in back, joints, neck, bones, arms and legs, oral herpes, edema, tiredness, weakness, chills, fall. Some of the serious side effects of this medication include allergic reaction, decreased blood clotting activity, lymphopenia, nose bleeding, shortness of breath, labored breathing, low blood pressure, mouth sores, nausea, vomiting, increased blood sugar, low levels of potassium and sodium in blood, upper respiratory tract infection, hemorrhoids, urinary tract infection, increased weight, pneumonia, bronchitis, lung problems and heart problems. Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Rydapt?


Do not take Rydapt if you are allergic to midostaurin or any ingredients in the medication.

Rydapt is not recommended in children and adolescents (< 18 years of age).

• Anti-HIV medicines such as ritonavir
• Medicines used to treat heart rhythm disorder called prolongation of QT interval
