What is Rulide Used for?

Rulide (Roxithromycin) is a prescription antibiotic used to treat different bacterial infections of the body, such as acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, tonsilitis, skin rash, or genital infections. The active ingredient in the Rulid tablet is Roxithromycin. Roxithromycin is an antibiotic that belongs to the class of medicine called Macrolide. It works by inhibiting the protein synthesis by targeting the bacterial ribosome, thereby killing or stopping the growth of the bacteria causing the infection. However, it would be best to know that Roxithromycin is ineffective against viral infection.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Rulide?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Changes in the sense of taste;
• Diarrhea;
• Headache;
• Nausea and vomiting;
• Stomach pain;
• Weakness

Stop using Rulid and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Rulide?

Before taking the Rulide tablet, inform your doctor if you are allergic to Roxithromycin or any other macrolide antibiotic, e.g., azithromycin, clarithromycin, or erythromycin. Rulide comes as a tablet to take by mouth on an empty stomach at least 15 minutes before food. It would be best to use it according to your prescription and never take more than the prescribed dose. Do not give your medicine to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours. You should start to feel better in 3 to 5 days after taking the Roxithromycin tablet. You should endeavor to finish your entire course of treatment, even if the condition improves, to avoid antibiotic resistance by the bacteria. Inform your doctor if you take alcohol, and it would be best to limit your alcoholic beverages when taking the Rulid tablet. Talk to your doctor if Rulide does not work for your condition for proper medical assessment or alternative medicine.

You should not take Rulide and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Heart diseases;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease (hepatic cirrhosis with jaundice or ascites);
• Low blood pressure or you are using antihypertensive medicines;
• Viral infections not responding to the treatment

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or breastfeed a child while taking the Rulide tablet. It is unknown if this medication causes any harm to the fetus. However, early pregnancy can increase the risk of significant congenital disabilities and, therefore, should only be used upon your doctor's recommendation. In addition, Rulid passes into breast milk. Consequently, you should consult your doctor before breastfeeding your child if treating any infection with Rulide.

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. In addition, there may be a drug interaction between Rulide and other drugs, such as:
• Cisapride;
• Ciclosporin;
• Digoxin;
• Disopyramide;
• Pimozide;
• Theophylline;
Warfarin
