What Dosages and Forms are Pifeltro Available in?

Pifeltro is available in the strength of 100 mg tablets only.

What is Pifeltro Used for?

Pifeltro (Doravirine) is a prescription medicine used to treat adults and adolescents from 12 years of age weighing at least 35 kg who are infected with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), a virus that causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). The active ingredient in Pifeltro is Doravirine. Doravirine belongs to a class of drugs known as non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). It works by interfering with an enzyme needed by HIV called reverse transcriptase. Using Pifeltro and other anti-HIV drugs significantly reduces HIV's ability to infect cells and make copies of itself.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Pifeltro?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Abnormal dreams;
• Dizziness;
• Diarrhea;
• Headache;
• Nausea;
• Stomach (abdominal) pain;
• Tiredness

Stop using Pifeltro and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:

• Numbness of hands, feet, arms and legs;
• No improvement in your viral load;
• Severe tiredness;

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Pifeltro?

Pifeltro comes as a tablet and should be taken with a cup of water. It would be best to take Pifeltro as your doctor tells you to take it every day. Take Pifeltro once each day, at about the same time every day. Tell your doctor if you have taken rifabutin in the past 4 weeks. Do not change your dose or stop taking Pifeltro without talking to your doctor. Stay under a healthcare provider's care when taking Pifeltro. Take Pifeltro on a regular dosing schedule as instructed by your doctor. If you miss a dose of Pifeltro, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at your regular time. Do not take two doses of Pifeltro at the same time. It would be best to know that Pifeltro does not cure HIV/AIDS. You should continue to use this medication, and if you have any serious side effects, you should immediately reach out to your doctor.

You should not take Pifeltro and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Geriatrics (= 65 years of age);
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease (including hepatitis B infection)

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or breastfeed a baby. It would be best to know that HIV can be passed to your baby if it is not controlled during pregnancy. In addition, women with HIV should not breastfeed because their babies could be infected with HIV through breast milk.

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. For example, there may be a drug interaction between Pifeltro and other drugs, such as:
Carbamazepine;
• Enzalutamide;
• Mitotane;
• Oxcarbazepine;
• Phenobarbital;
• Phenytoin;
• Rifampin;
• Rifapentine
