What is Parsitan used for?


Parsitan is an antiparkinsonian agent which is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of drug induced extrapyramidal manifestations and treatment of mild cases of postencephalitic (parkinsonism caused by a viral illness that triggers degeneration of the nerve cells in the substantia nigra), vascular (several small strokes in the part of brain which received information about position and movement) or idiopathic (parkinsonism due to unknown cause) Parkinson’s Disease in patients in whom anticholinergic therapy is not contraindicated. Take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. For drug induced extrapyramidal reactions the usual dose is, 100 mg twice daily. In post encephalitic, arteriosclerotic or idiopathic parkinsonism, treatment is started at a low dose of 50 mg 3 times a day and increased from 50 to 100 mg daily every 2 to 3 days until the optimum effect is obtained or the limit of tolerance is attained. Drowsiness and anticholinergic effects which may appear at the beginning of treatment generally subside after a few days.
