Otovel is available as 15x2.5 mL vials 0.3%/0.025%. Each single-dose vial of Otovel (ciprofloxacin 0.3% and fluocinolone acetonide 0.025 %) delivers 0.25 mL of solution equivalent to ciprofloxacin 0.75 mg and fluocinolone acetonide 0.0625 mg.

What Is Otovel Used For?


Otovel is a prescription medicine and is used only in the ear (otic use) in children 6 months of age and older for the treatment of a type of middle ear infection, called acute otitis media with tympanostomy tubes (AOMT), in children who have a tube in their ear drum called as tympanostomy tube. It contains two medicines, a quinolone antibiotic called ciprofloxacin and a corticosteroid called fluocinolone acetonide. It is used to prevent having too much fluid in the middle ear. It is not known whether Otovel is safe and effective in children under 6 months of age. Use Otovel exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Otovel is for use in the ear only (otic use). Do not inject Otovel or use Otovel in the eye. Apply the entire dose of Otovel from 1 of the single-dose vials, into the affected ear 2 times a day (for a total of 2 single-dose vials a day) for 7 days. Each dose should be about 12 hours apart.

What Are The Possible Side Effects Of Otovel?


The most common side effects of Otovel include draining of fluid continuously from ear (otorrhea), extra tissue growing on a part of the ear that has been injured, ear pain, ear infection, ear itching, pruritis, swelling of the outer or inside part of the ear, balance problems, and allergic reactions. Stop using this medication and call your healthcare provider if you have symptoms of an allergic reaction such as hives, swelling of face, lips, mouth or tongue, rash, itching, trouble breathing, dizziness, fast heartbeat or pounding in the chest. These are not all the possible side effects of Otovel. In case of any unexpected effect, contact your healthcare professional right away.

Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Otovel?


Do not take Otovel if you:

• Are allergic to ciprofloxacin, quinolones, fluocinolone acetonide, corticosteroids or any other ingredients in the medication

• Have an outer ear canal infection caused by certain viruses including chicken pox (varicella) and the herpes simplex virus

• Have an ear infection caused by a fungus

Before taking Otovel, inform your doctor if you:

• Are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, although Otovel is not expected to harm your baby

• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed, although Otovel is not expected to pass into breast milk and to harm your baby
