Are there Alternative Names for the Brand Odefsey?

The brand Odefsey comes from Canada manufactured by Gilead Sciences. Unfortunately, the generic version is not available.

What Dosages and Forms are Odefsey Available in?

Odefsey is available in the strength of 200 mg/25 mg/25 mg tablet.

What is Odefsey Used for?

Odefsey (Emtricitabine/Rilpivirine/Tenofovir Alafenamide) is a prescription medicine used to treat Human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) infection in adults and children who weigh at least 35 kg. The active ingredients in Odefsey are Emtricitabine, Rilpivirine, and Tenofovir Alafenamide. Tenofovir and emtricitabine belong to the class of medications called reverse transcriptase inhibitors. Rilpivirine is an antiviral agent called a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. The combinations work by blocking the activity of reverse transcriptase, a virus enzyme that allows HIV-1 to replicate in the cells it has infected. By blocking this enzyme, Odefsey reduces the amount of HIV-1 in the blood and keeps it at a low level.

• Dizziness or lightheadedness;

• Skin blisters;
• Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, or throat;

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Odefsey?

Before taking this medication, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Odefsey or any of the active ingredients in Odefsey. Taking Odefsey does not prevent you from passing HIV to other people. Do not have unprotected sex or share razors or toothbrushes. Talk with your doctor about safe ways to prevent HIV transmission during sexual intercourse. It is crucial to continue taking this medication (and other HIV medications) exactly as your doctor prescribes. Some people developed lactic acidosis after taking the Odefsey tablet. This may be more likely in women, people who are overweight or have liver disease, and people who have taken HIV/AIDS medication for a long time. Talk with your doctor about your risk. Inform your doctor if there is no improvement in your viral load for proper assessment.

You should not take Odefsey and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Diabetes mellitus (lactic acidosis);
• Heart diseases;
• History of depression/suicidal thoughts;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease;
• Low blood pressure or you are using antihypertensive medicines

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or breastfeeding a baby. HIV can be passed to your baby if the virus is not controlled during pregnancy. Women with HIV or AIDS should not breastfeed a baby. If your baby is born without HIV, the virus may be passed to the baby in your breast milk. Odefsey is effective and safe for children above eight years of age.

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. There may be a drug interaction between Odefsey and other drugs, such as:
• Carbamazepine;
• Dexamethasone;
• Dexlansoprazole;
• Efavirenz
• Elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir DF;
• Eslicarbazepine acetate;
Lamivudine
