Nizoral (Ketoconazole) is a prescription antifungal medication used to treat skin infections caused by fungus (yeast), including sweat rash, jock itch, athlete's foot, dandruff, and tinea versicolor. It also relieves flaking, scaling, and itching associated with dandruff. The active substance in Nizoral is Ketoconazole. Ketoconazole belongs to a class of medication called azole antifungal. It works by preventing the fungus (yeast) growth that caused the infection.

• Nausea and vomiting;

Stop using Nizoral and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• New onset of rash despite using Ketoconazole;
• Your condition worsens or no improvement after 2-4 weeks of use

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Nizoral?

Before using Ketoconazole, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or other azole antifungals such as clotrimazole, econazole, or miconazole or if you have any other allergies. Nizoral is a tablet that should be taken orally with a cup of water, usually once daily. Ketoconazole usually works within 2 to 3 weeks for most fungal infections, but it can take 6 weeks for an athlete's foot to get better. Follow your prescription label carefully. Nizoral tablets should not be used as first-line treatment for fungal skin infections. It should be used only when another effective antifungal therapy is unavailable or tolerated, and the potential benefits outweigh the potential of hepatotoxicity (liver injury). Do not drink any alcoholic beverages during your treatment with Ketoconazole because drinking alcoholic beverages may increase the risk that you will develop liver damage. Continue taking Nizoral until your doctor tells you to stop, even if you feel better. Do not stop taking Ketoconazole without talking to your doctor. If you stop taking Ketoconazole too soon, your infection may come back after a short time.

You should not take Nizoral and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Chronic alcoholics;
• Heart diseases such as QT prolongation;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease (including hepatitis B infection)

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or nursing a child. Antifungal such as Ketoconazole should be used only if needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if Ketoconazole passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. There may be a drug interaction between Nizoral and other drugs, such as:
• Alfuzosin;
• Antacid;
• Isoniazid;
• Ivabradine;
• Methadone;
• Procainamide;
• Quinidine;
• Venetoclax;
• Voclosporin
