Nimotop (Nimodipine) is a prescription medicine used to preserve brain function after a subarachnoid hemorrhage. This condition occurs when bleeding is present around the brain. The body naturally narrows the blood vessels to slow blood flow in response to bleeding. However, when the bleeding is in the brain, stopping blood flow results in more brain damage. The active ingredient in Nimotop is Nimodipine. Nimodipine belongs to a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing the narrowed blood vessels near the injured brain area to increase blood flow and reduce brain damage.
