What is Nexium used for?


Nexium (Esomeprazole) is a prescription medication that is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other stomach conditions. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. This medication works by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces. Nexium relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing and persistent cough. It helps heal the acid damage to the stomach and esophagus, which helps to prevent ulcers.
