What is Muvalaplin Used for?

Muvalaplin (Muvalaplin) is a prescription medication used to lower the body's Lipoprotein (a) level. Lipoprotein (a) is a special form of cholesterol, and too much of it can raise the risk of heart disease, blood clots, and heart valve issues. Lipoprotein(a) is a sticky cholesterol, essentially a silent killer, and has been linked to aortic stenosis and atherosclerosis. The active substance is Muvalaplin. Muvalaplin belongs to the class of medication called Lipoprotein (a) (Lp(a)) inhibitor. It works by inhibiting the formation of Lipoprotein by blocking apolipoprotein apo(a)-apo B100 interactions and avoiding interaction with the cognate protein fibrinogen. Maintaining an optimal and healthy level of Lipoprotein prevents stroke and sudden cardiac death.
