It also contains dexamethasone, an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid that works by reducing swelling of the eyes. This medication treats and prevents only bacterial eye infections. Do not use Maxitrol Eye Drops if you have an allergy to Neomycin or other aminoglycoside antibiotics such as polymyxin B. Allergy to other polymyxin antibiotics, dexamethasone, or any other polymyxin antibiotics, or other corticosteroid medicine. Maxitrol Eye Drops is not to be used if you have an ocular viral or fungal infection or have had a foreign body removed from the outside of the eye. Do not stop using Maxitrol Eye Drops or lower the dosage because you feel better unless advised by your doctor. Shake very well before use and do not allow it to touch the infected eye to prevent contamination. Tilt head back, instill suspension into the conjunctival sac, and close eye(s). Apply light finger pressure on lacrimal sac for 1 minute following instillation. Do not wear contact lenses during treatment with Maxitrol Eye.
Before you start using Maxitrol Eye drops, it is advisable to inform your doctor of your medical history, especially if you have any of the following:
• Amoebic infection of the eye;
• Diabetes mellitus;
