Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Loprox?

Before you commence this topical medicine, tell your doctor if you have been allergic to it or similar products in the past. You should apply this medication only to the skin. You have to clean and thoroughly dry the area to be treated. Apply a thin layer of the medicine on and around the affected area and gently rub it into the skin, usually twice daily or as directed by your doctor. Wash your hands after using unless the area being treated includes the hands. Do not use nail polish or other nail cosmetic products on nails treated with Ciclopirox topical solution.

Loprox shampoo is generally used 2 or 3 times a week or as often as recommended by your doctor. Wet hair and apply enough shampoo to work up an abundant lather. Massage the scalp with your fingertips for 2 to 3 minutes, then rinse the hair well. Keep the shampoo out of the eyes and away from the eyelids. If you get this medication in your eyes, flush well with clean water. The Loprox shampoo may cause discoloration of grey, white, or chemically damaged hair. It would be best if you continued to use this medication for as long as your doctor prescribes it. Do not stop suddenly without reaching out to your doctor, even if your condition is better or relieves you.

You should not take Loprox and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• A condition for which you use steroid medication;
• A weak immune system;
• Diabetes;
• Epilepsy or other seizure disorder

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to get pregnant while using Loprox topicals for treating fungal infections. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. It would be best to discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk. You should allow your doctor to decide if it is appropriate for you to use Loprox cream while breastfeeding your baby. Loprox cream and lotion are not approved for use by anyone younger than 10 years old. Ciclopirox shampoo is not approved for anyone younger than 16 years old.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements to prevent drug interactions, which might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' action. There may be a drug interaction between Loprox and other drugs, such as:
• An inhaled or topical steroid medicine;
• Seizure medication such as carbamazepine, phenytoin;
