What is Jorveza Used for?
Jorveza is a budesonide-containing orodispersible tablet intended to treat individuals with eosinophilic esophagitis. Eosinophilic oesophagitis is an inflammation of the esophagus (the tube that connects the mouth and the stomach), resulting in dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) and esophageal obstruction. The lining of the esophagus becomes inflamed due to a massive build-up of white blood cells called eosinophils. Budesonide is a non-halogenated glucocorticosteroid that binds to the glucocorticoid receptor and functions as an anti-inflammatory. Budesonide inhibits the antigen-stimulated secretion of some pro-inflammatory signal molecules in the esophageal epithelium, including thymic stromal lymphopoietin, interleukin-13, and eotaxin-3, resulting in a significant reduction in the esophageal eosinophilic inflammatory infiltrate in EoE patients treated with Jorveza. Jorveza is used to treat adults with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) (older than 18 years of age). Immediately Jorveza dissolves in the mouth; saliva transports it to the esophagus, where it lowers inflammation and soothes eosinophilic oesophagitis symptoms.
