What is Foradil used for?

Foradil is used along with long-term asthma medication such as corticosteroids in adults and children aged 5 years and above to control the symptoms of asthma. It is also used to treat exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB)to prevent wheezing caused by exercise in adults and children of age 5 years and older. Foradil is also used as a long-term medicine, 2 times a day to control the symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and prevent wheezing caused by COPD. The safety and efficacy of Foradil are not known in children under 5 years of age.

What Are The Possible Side Effects of Foradil?


Some of the common side effects of Foradil Aerolizer include a headache, tremor, chest pain and infection, trouble sleeping, viral infections, runny nose, tonsillitis, gastroenteritis, abdominal pain, nausea, dyspepsia, respiratory and throat infection, sinus infection, fever, leg and muscle cramps. Some other serious side effects of this medication include sudden breathing problems immediately after inhaling medicine, low blood potassium, serious allergic reactions, an increase in blood sugar levels. These are not all the possible side effects of Foradil. In case of any unexpected effect, consult your healthcare professional as soon as possible.

Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Foradil?


Foradil contains lactose (milk sugar) and a small number of milk proteins. It is possible that allergic reactions may happen in patients who have a severe milk protein allergy.
Do not use Foradil if you:

• Are allergic to formoterol or any other ingredients in Foradil Aerolizer

• Do not use this medicine to treat your asthma without a long-term asthma control medicine, such as an inhaled corticosteroid

• Do not use this medicine to treat sudden symptoms of asthma or COPD

Before taking Foradil, inform your doctor if you:

• Have heart problems or high blood pressure

• Have seizures

• Have thyroid problems

• Have diabetes

• Have swelling of an artery

• Have tumor of the adrenal gland

• Are scheduled to have surgery

• Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is not known whether Foradil Aerolizer can harm your unborn baby

• Are breastfeeding. It is not known if Foradil passes into breast milk and if it can harm your nursing baby

Drug interactions

• Adrenergic drugs such as epinephrine

• Xanthine derivatives such as theophylline used to treat COPD and asthma

• Systemic corticosteroids

• Non-potassium sparing diuretics (Water pills)

• MAO inhibitors such as selegiline

• Tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline

• Macrolide antibiotics

• Beta-blockers such as propranolol
Foradil Aerolizer may raise the chance of asthma-related deaths in people with asthma who do not also use an inhaled steroid. Use Foradil Aerolizer for asthma only if you are also using an inhaled corticosteroid.

Foradil Storage and Safety Information


Foradil medication should be stored at a room temperature between 20 °C to 25 °C, in original package, protected from heat and moisture. It should be kept out of the reach and sight of children.
