What Dosages and Forms is Exforge Available in?

Exforge is available in the strength of 5 mg/160 mg, 5 mg/80 mg, and 10 mg/160 mg tablets.

What is Exforge Used for?

Exforge (Amlodipine/Valsartan) is a combination of prescription medicine used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The active ingredients in Exforge are Amlodipine and Valsartan. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker, and Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. These two active ingredients work together in different but complementary ways to relax blood vessels and effectively lower blood pressure. Amlodipine blocks the movement of calcium into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. As a result, they relax blood vessels and increase the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart while reducing its workload. Valsartan helps remove excess water in the body, which can also help lower blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure may lower your risk of a stroke or heart attack.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Exforge?

• Abdominal pain;
• Dizziness;

• Headache;

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Exforge?

Before taking an Exforge tablet for your elevated blood pressure, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to either Amlodipine or Valsartan or if you have any other allergies. Take Exforge precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or longer than recommended. Be sure to keep all of your doctor's appointments so that your progress can be checked. People with high blood pressure often do not notice any signs of this problem. But it is crucial to keep track of your progress. Your doctor will want to check your blood pressure and your kidney and liver function from time to time.

You may have very low blood pressure while taking Exforge. Call your doctor if you have a light-headed feeling or feel like you might pass out. Call your doctor if you are sick with vomiting, diarrhea, or sweating more than usual. You may also notice signs that depict elevated calcium blood level (such as muscle weakness and slow or irregular heartbeat). You should reach out to your doctor for immediate assessment and care. Before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes that contain potassium, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

You should not take Exforge and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• A heart attack;
• Heart problems;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease;
• On a low-salt diet

Tell your doctor if you get pregnant or plan to get pregnant while taking the Exforge tablet. Exforge can cause harm or death to an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor about other ways to lower your blood pressure if you plan to become pregnant. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known whether Exforge will affect your baby or milk production. Do not breastfeed while taking Exforge unless advised by your doctor.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements to prevent drug interactions, which might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' action. There may be a drug interaction between Exforge and other drugs such as:
• Aliskiren;
• Ace inhibitors such as benazepril, lisinopril
• Birth control pills containing drospirenone;
• Dantrolene
