Are there Alternative Names for the Brand Evorel?

The brand Evorel comes from the United Kingdom manufactured by Janssen-Cilag. The generic version is not available.

What Dosages and Forms is Evorel Available in?

Evorel is available in the strength of 1.6 mg, 3.2 mg, 4.8 mg, and 6.4 mg Patches.

What is Evorel Used for?

Evorel (Estradiol) is a prescription medicine used to treat symptoms of menopause such as hot flushes, night sweats or mood swings, vaginal dryness or itching, and painful sexual intercourse in menopausal women caused by a lack of naturally occurring estrogens and progestogens. The active ingredient in the Evorel patches is Estradiol. Estradiol belongs to the hormone replacement therapy (HRT) group of medicines. It works by releasing Estradiol through the skin into the bloodstream at a constant rate. Kindly note that the Evorel patch is not a form of contraceptive.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Evorel?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Breast pain, tenderness, or enlargement;
• Dizziness;
• Dry eyes;
• Feeling or being sick;
• Headache or migraine;
• Menstrual bleeding or spotting;
• Skin reactions such as rash and itching;
• Stomach cramps;
• Weight gain

Stop using Evorel and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• An unusually severe headache that does not respond to medication;
• Sudden chest pain;
• Sudden breathlessness, or if you cough up blood;
• Swelling or pain in a leg;
• Yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes (jaundice)

This is not a complete list of the adverse effect of Evorel. Kindly reach out to your doctor or pharmacist if any of the above-listed side effects last longer than usual or get worse.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Evorel?

You should apply the patches to clean, dry, unbroken areas of your skin, preferably below your waist. You should not apply the patches near your breasts. Each time you use a patch, apply it to a different area so that your skin doesn't become irritated. There are several different types of patches, so it is a good idea to check that you have the same patches each time you collect a prescription.

You should not apply the patch in any of the following areas:
• On your chest or above the waist;
• On skin that is irritated or cut;
• On areas of skin that are in contact with tight clothes, e.g., waistbands;
• To areas of skin where you have used moisturizer or other creams;
• To the same area of skin twice in a row

You should follow your doctor's prescription carefully. The patch will need to be changed twice a week. Change your patch on the same two days every week. When removing your patch, fold it in half to stick together. It would be best if you discarded it in the household bin.

You should not take Evorel and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Migraine-like headaches;
• Breast cancer or any lumps in your breast, or family history of breast cancer;
• Diabetes mellitus;
• High blood pressure or a heart disorder;
• Inherited blood disorder known as porphyria;
• Kidney diseases;
• Liver problem;
• Problem with your veins (such as thrombophlebitis);
• Sudden chest pain (angina) or if you have had a heart attack;
• Unexplained vaginal bleeding

You should stop using this medicine and consult your doctor immediately if you think you could be pregnant during treatment. Evorel patches should not be used by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions which might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' action. There may be a drug interaction between Evorel and other drugs, such as:
• Carbamazepine;
• Efavirenz
• Modafinil;
• Nevirapine;
• Oxcarbazepine;
• Phenobarbital;
• Phenytoin;
• Primidone;
• Rifabutin;
• Rifampicin;
• Ritonavir;
• Rufinamide
