What is Eurax Used for?

Eurax (Crotamiton) is a topical prescription medicine used to treat dermatitis, allergies, scabies, and other symptoms, such as itching associated with the infection. Scabies is a parasitic infection caused by a parasite burrowing an egg into the skin. The active substance in Eura is Crotamiton. Crotamiton belongs to the class of medication called antipruritic (non-corticosteroid agent). It works by killing the mites that cause scabies. In addition, relieving itching prevents skin irritation caused by scratching and thus reduces the risk of secondary infection.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Eurax?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Changes in skin color;
• Skin irritation, such as rash or itching at the application site;
• Warm sensation

Stop using Eurax and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• High-grade fever;
• Severe itching;
• Signs of secondary bacterial infections such as pus;
• Worsening of the condition

This is not a complete list of the adverse effect of Eurax. Kindly contact your doctor or pharmacist if any of the above-listed side effects last longer than usual or worsen.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Eurax?

Before using crotamiton, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Eurax cream is for use on the skin only. Do not take this medication by mouth. Avoid applying crotamiton on the face, eyes, mouth, vagina, and any inflamed, raw skin or oozing fluid. Apply the cream after taking a shower. Remove scaly or crusted skin by rubbing gently. Then dry with a towel and apply a small amount of the cream to the affected areas. You should change clothing, towels, and bed sheets the following day after each application. Wash all clothing, towels, and bedding that have been used in the three days before treatment and after each application in hot water and dry in a hot dryer (or dry-clean) to kill all the mites and prevent them from returning. You may still have an itching for several weeks after using Eurax cream. Ask your doctor about other medications that may help to soothe the itching. Tell your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse.

You should not take Eurax and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease (including hepatitis B infection);
• Open wound or sores on the skin;
• Severe skin infection;
• Skin cancer

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or breastfeeding a baby. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown whether Crotamiton passes into the breast milk. Breastfeeding mothers should avoid applying Eurax cream to the nipples or where the baby can contact it.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. For example, there may be a drug interaction between Eurax and other medications, such as:
• Other topical medications, such as steroid creams;
• Triamcinolone
