The active ingredient in Etibi is Ethambutol. Ethambutol belongs to the family of medications known as antimycobacterial antibiotics. It is believed to work by preventing the bacteria from continuing to grow.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Etibi?

You should not use Ethambutol if you are allergic to it. You may not be able to take Ethambutol if you have an eye condition called optic neuritis (inflammation of nerve fibers behind your eyes). Your doctor will decide if this treatment is proper for you if you have an eye disorder. Tell your doctor if you have ever used any tuberculosis medicine before. Your dose may be different if you have been treated for tuberculosis in the past. Ethambutol should never be used on its own and should always be used with other tuberculosis medications. Use this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of another disease that is resistant to antibiotics. Ethambutol may cause live bacterial vaccines (such as typhoid vaccine) not to work as well. Do not have any immunizations/vaccinations while using this medication. It is essential to take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

You should not take Etibi (Ethambutol) and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Cataracts;
• Eye problems caused by diabetes;
• Gout;
• Inflammatory eye disorders such as uveitis or iritis;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This medication passes into breast milk but is unlikely to harm a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements to prevent drug interactions, which might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' action. There may be a drug interaction between Etibi and other drugs such as:
• Allopurinol;
• Aluminum hydroxide;
• Aluminum hydroxide/magnesium carbonate;
• Aluminum hydroxide/magnesium trisilicate;
• BCG live vaccine;
• Febuxostat;
• Probenecid;
• Sodium picosulfate/magnesium oxide/anhydrous citric acid
