What is Estradot used for?


Estradot (Estradiol-17B) is used for the short term relief of symptoms of the menopause such as abnormal uterine bleeding, hot flushes, sweating and chills. It is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Estradot is a stick-on patch that contains Estradiol. Estradiol patch belongs to the class of medications known as estrogen replacement therapy. When Estradot is applied to your skin, it releases Estradiol through the skin into the bloodstream at a constant rate. Estradot patches are designed to be changed twice a week. Women who have not had a hysterectomy must also take a progestin with this medication to prevent complications that may arise with taking estrogen alone.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Estradot?


The common side effects may include bloating, breast tenderness, change in sex drive, increased frequency of menstrual bleeding and migraine headache. Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:

Are there any Precautions or Drug Interactions for Estradot?


Before you start using Estradot, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you are taking. Estrogens with or without progestins should be used at the lowest dose that relieves your menopausal symptoms for the shortest time possible. Your doctor should monitor your blood pressure when using the Estrogen replacement therapy as some women may experience increased blood pressure. Long-term use of Estrogen replacement therapy may put you at an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer. There may be a drug interaction between the Estradiol patch and other medications such as alcohol, anastrazole, atorvastatin, carbamazepine, cannabis, carvedilol, celecoxib, quinine, etc.
