What Dosages and Forms is Effient available in?

We carry both the brand name Effient and its generic equivalent in only the 10 mg dosage.

What is Effient used for?

Effient is an anticoagulant which works to prevent platelets in your blood from binding together and forming blood clots and keeps blood flowing smoothly. This in turn can prevent serious heart and blood vessel problems, such as heart attacks, strokes, blood clotting in stents, etc. It’s often used in combination with aspirin by heart patients who have heart disease and are about to undergo a heart procedure, such as angioplasty.

Effient can also be used to prevent blood clots in patients with acute coronary syndrome, who could be undergoing procedures after a recent heart attack or stroke.

Effient Storage and Safety Information

Store Effient at room temperature away from extreme heat and moisture. Keep the tablets in their container, along with the mineral-absorbing packet. Always keep the lid tightly closed when not in use.

Taking Effient can make it easier to bleed and harder to stop the bleeding, even from minor injuries. Take precautions, and be sure to see your doctor immediately if you have any bleeding that won’t stop. Avoid any activities that may increase your risk of injury. This includes minor daily activities, such as shaving or brushing your teeth.

Using any NSAID in combination with Effient may cause you to bruise or bleed more easily. If you take any NSAID for pain, arthritis, fever, or swelling, talk to your doctor about whether or not Effient is right for you.

Effient is not recommended for patients 75 years of age or older, except in high-risk situations.

Because Effient is usually given with aspirin, it should not be taken by patients who are pregnant, as the aspirin can cause bleeding when taking in the last trimester of pregnancy. Aspirin can also cause unwanted side effects in a newborn baby.

Do not stop taking this medication without your doctor’s approval. Stopping this medicine too soon can cause life-threatening medical issues, such as blood clots, heart attack, or stroke.

Seek emergency help or call Poison Control at 1-800-463-5060 immediately if you suspect an overdose.

Keep out of the reach of children.
