What is Cubicin Used for?

Cubicin (Daptomycin) is a prescription medicine used to treat severe skin infections caused by gram-positive bacteria and bacteremia due to Staphylococcus aureus, including MRSA. The active ingredient in Cubicin is Daptomycin. Daptomycin belongs to the class of medicine called cyclic lipopeptide antibiotic. It works by binding to the cell membranes of Gram-positive bacteria, causing a reaction that rapidly stops the bacteria from making the proteins and genetic material they need to survive and multiply. It would be best to know that antibiotics such as Daptomycin injection will not work for treating colds, flu, or other viral infections.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Cubicin?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Abdominal pain;
• Diarrhea;
• Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep;
• Feeling dizzy or sick;
• Headache;
• Redness, pain, or swelling at the injection site;
• Stomach ache;
• Vomiting;

Stop using Cubicin and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Diarrhea that is severe, persistent, or contains blood/mucus;
• Generalized body itching;
• Swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, and eyes;
• Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness or cramps, or any numbness, tingling, burning sensations or pain in your feet and/or hands during treatment;

This is not a complete list of the adverse effect of Cubicin. Kindly reach out to your doctor or pharmacist if any of the above-listed side effects last longer than usual or get worse.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Cubicin?

Before you receive Daptomycin injections, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you're already taking any medicines, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines. Cubicin injection should be received in the hospital under the supervision of a medical doctor. The duration of your treatment depends on the type of infection being treated and your response to Daptomycin treatment. You may receive a daptomycin injection in a hospital or administer the medication at home. If you use Cubicin injection at home, your doctor will show you how to infuse the drug. We encourage you to have an open conversation with your doctor if you have any questions. Cubicin injection should not be used by children younger than 12 months due to the possible risk of severe side effects. You should begin to feel better during the first few days of treatment with Cubicin injection. However, if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse, call your doctor.

You should not take Cubicin and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Heart diseases;
• History of depression/suicidal thoughts;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while using a Daptomycin injection, call your doctor. It is unknown if Cubicin injection affects nursing mothers. Discuss the risk of using this medication while breastfeeding a child.

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. For example, there may be a drug interaction between Cubicin and other drugs, such as:
• Atorvastatin;
• Cyclosporin;
• Cholesterol lowering agent such as bezafibrate, gemfibrozil;
• Fluvastatin;
• Lovastatin;
Pitavastatin
• Pravastatin;
• Rosuvastatin;
• Simvastatin;
• Tobramycin;
