What is the Coversyl Used for?

Coversyl (Perindopril) is a prescription medicine used to treat high blood pressure. High blood pressure, or hypertension, is when the force of blood pushing against your artery walls is consistently too high. This damages your arteries over time and can lead to serious complications like heart attack and stroke. Coversyl is also used to treat congestive heart failure and to reduce the likelihood of heart attack in people with coronary artery disease. The active ingredient in Coversyl is Perindopril. Perindopril belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It works by relaxing the blood vessels to increase blood flow and lower blood pressure.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Coversyl

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Coversyl?

Before using this medication, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Coversyl or have other problems when using Perindopril. It is crucial to continue using this medication exactly as your doctor prescribes. Coversyl comes as a tablet. Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablets. Your dose will depend on the condition you are treating. Take this drug on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal). This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Avoid standing up too fast from a sitting or lying position to reduce your risk of dizziness. Avoid drinking alcohol when using this drug. Alcohol may make you dizzier. Drink enough water in hot weather and while exercising to reduce the risk of dehydration. Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor. High blood pressure often has no symptoms. Stopping this drug suddenly may make your condition worse. Inform your doctor if you have a scheduled surgery. Stop using Coversyl for at least 24 hours before your surgery.

You should not use Coversyl and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Angioedema;
• Aortic stenosis;
• Diabetes;
• Dialysis;

Perindopril passes into breast milk, and it may harm a nursing infant. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug when breastfeeding with your doctor. Do not give Coversyl to children without talking to your doctor.

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions that might be fatal to your health. This drug interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. There may be a drug interaction between Coversyl and other drugs, such as aliskiren, baclofen, eplerenone, heparin, lithium, allopurinol, metformin, sacubitril, morphine, etc.
