Cosyntropin is a man-made form of a hormone called adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). This hormone is normally produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. These hormones help your body respond to stress and it also supports many systems of the body including circulation, metobolism, immunity, and the nervous system. Cortrosyn is taken by injection intramuscularly or as a direct intravenous infusion for 4-8 hours.
