Artemether and Lumefantrine belong to a class of drugs known as antimalarials. This medication works by interfering with the growth of parasites in the red blood cells of the human body.

The common side effects may include abdominal pain, chills, cough, dizziness, fever, headache, loss of appetite, muscle or joint pain, nausea, tiredness, trouble sleeping, vomiting and weakness. Talk to your doctor immediately if any of these rare but serious side effects occur:

Coartem may interact with drugs such as: Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Enzalutamide, Primidone, Rifampin, St. John's Wort, Amodiaquine, Chloroquine, Hydroxychloroquine, e.t.c. This medication may make you dizzy, tired or weak. Alcohol and marijuana can make you dizzier or tired. You should not drive of do any activity that requires you to be alert. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breast-feeding.
