What Is Clobex Used For?


Clobex shampoo is prescribed for providing relief from redness, scaling, itching associated with moderate to severe form of scalp psoriasis. Clobex shampoo contains active ingredient as clobetasol propionate, which belongs to a group of medications known as topical corticosteroids. Clobex spray is used for the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in adults of age 18 years and above. Clobex spray also helps to reduce the itching, scaling, and redness associated with plaque psoriasis.

What Are The Possible Side Effects Of Clobex?


The most common side effects of Clobex spray include burning and itching at the site of application, dry skin, thinning of skin, pain or darkening of the skin around the plaque being treated. Clobex spray can also pass through the skin and use of a too much Clobex spray can shut down your adrenal glands leading to nausea, vomiting, fever, low blood pressure, heart attack and even death. Your doctor might need to conduct certain blood and urine tests to check your adrenal gland function while you are using Clobex spray. This medication may hide symptoms of infections causing inactive infections to become active and may cause infections by normally inoffensive organisms due to lower body resistance to fight infections. Use of Clobex spray too close to the eye can increase the pressure in the eyes. Some uncommon side effects of Clobex spray include worsening of psoriasis (red, scaly, thick patches of skin), and wounds that are slow to heal. Apart from the above side effects, Clobex shampoo can cause some additional side effects such as skin discomfort, swelling of the skin, psoriasis aggravation, skin tightness, baldness and widening of small blood vessels in the skin.

Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Clobex?


Clobex shampoo or spray should not be used for more than 4 weeks, even if you are not completely healed. Clobex should be used very carefully in order to avoid serious side effects. Do not allow Clobex shampoo to get in touch with your eyes, face, or lips. If your eyes keep stinging, even after thorough rinsing, contact your doctor right away. Do not apply Clobex shampoo to face, groin or armpits and do not swallow the shampoo in your mouth. If you or a child accidentally swallows Clobex shampoo, call your emergency room right away. Do not use more than 50 g of spray or more than 50 mL of shampoo per week. Do not get vaccinations without consulting your doctor if you are using this medication.

Do not use Clobex shampoo or spray if you:

• Are allergic to clobetasol propionate or any other ingredients in this medication

• Have untreated tubercular, bacterial, parasitic, fungal or viral infections such as chicken pox, herpes simplex

• Have taken vaccinations recently
In addition, Clobex shampoo should not be used if you:

• Have rosacea, acne vulgaris, ulcerous wounds

• Have inflammation or itching around the mouth, anus, or genitals, unless your doctor has recommended it.

Clobex shampoo should not be used in children under 2 years of age and is not recommended for use by children under 18 years of age.

Before using Clobex, tell your doctor if you:

• Are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medication

• Are less than 18 years of age. Clobex spray is not recommended to be used by children under 18 years of age.

• Have a weak immune response

• Have acne rosacea or acne vulgaris

• Need to undergo a surgery for any reason including dental surgery

• Have plaques around your mouth, underarms, anus or genitals

• Have a fungal or bacterial infection

• Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant

• Are breastfeeding, your doctor will decide with you whether the benefits of using Clobex will be greater than the risks. If possible delay the treatment with Clobex until after your baby is born.

• Have ever used corticosteroids earlier for treatment of skin disorders, allergic reactions, asthma or arthritis.

• Are allergic to any medications, food or dye

• Do not apply Clobex spray with an occlusive dressing or over a large area

Drug interactions


Although there are no drug interactions reported with the use of Clobex, you should always tell your health care professional about any medications that you have been taking or are going to take including prescription and non-prescription drugs, vitamins and herbal supplements. Clobex should not be used along with Aldesleukin.

Clobex Storage and Safety Information


Clobex spray should be stored at a room temperature between 15-30 °C. Do not refrigerate the spray. The spray is inflammable and should be kept away from heat and flame. Keep Clobex and shampoo in a tightly closed container, out of sight and reach of children.
