What is Clindesse Used for?

Clindesse (Clindamycin phosphate) belongs to the class of antibiotics known as lincomycins. It acts by slowing or preventing bacterial development. Clindesse 2% Vaginal Cream is used to treat bacterial vaginosis in non-pregnant women (also known as Haemophilus vaginitis, Gardnerella vaginitis, nonspecific vaginitis, Corynebacterium vaginitis, or anaerobic vaginitis). It's a one-time treatment for vaginal infections (bacterial vaginosis) in non-pregnant women caused by specific bacteria. Clindesse Cream is a lincomycin antibiotic that is applied to the skin. It works by reducing the rate at which some bacteria grow. Clindamycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis at the ribosome level. The antibiotic binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit preferentially and interferes with the peptide chain initiation process. Despite being inert in vitro, hydrolysis transforms clindamycin phosphate to the active antimicrobial clindamycin in vivo.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Clindesse?

Common side effects of Clindesse include:
• Back pain;
• Constipation;
• Headache;
• Mild stomach upset;
• Urinary tract infection;
• Vaginal discomfort/itching/discharge

A new vaginal infection (e.g., yeast/fungal infection) could be causing these symptoms. If you observe a change in vaginal discharge or other new vaginal problems, contact your doctor. Due to a type of resistant bacteria, a minimal amount of this medication may be absorbed into your bloodstream and cause severe intestinal disease (Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea). This condition can develop during treatment or weeks or months after it has ended. If you have any of the following symptoms, avoid using anti-diarrhea medicines or narcotic pain relievers since they may aggravate them. If you have persistent diarrhea, abdominal or stomach pain/cramping, or blood/mucus in your stool, call your doctor right once. Rarely does this medication induce a severe allergic reaction. However, if you notice any symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, such as a rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or neck), significant dizziness, or breathing difficulties, seek medical attention right once. This is not an exhaustive list of potential adverse effects.
