What is Cleocin T used for?

Cleocin T (Clindamycin) is a topical medication used to teat severe acne in adults and children over the age of 12. Cleocin T may also be used for other purposes not listed above. Cleocin T belongs to a class of medications called lincomycin antibiotics, and works by inhibiting bacteria protein synthesis, preventing the bacteria from growing, replicating, and surviving. Because severe acne is often caused or worsened due to bacterial infections, by killing the bacteria, Cleocin T can treat and reduce the number of acne lesions. Severe acne is characterized by inflamed, red blemishes that can, in serious cases, cause pain, and may ooze, crust, or scab over. Your doctor will discuss the most effective treatment for your symptoms. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the medicine exactly as directed. Do not take by mouth. Topical medicine is for use only on the skin. Shake Cleocin T lotion well before each use. Wash your hands before and after applying this medicine. Do not smoke while using Cleocin T foam, or immediately after applying it. The contents of the foam canister are flammable. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse.

What Are the Possible Side Effects of Cleocin T?

Some of the common side effects of Cleocin T may include mild skin irritation, dryness, or peeling, oily skin, mild skin redness, or itching of the treated skin. Some serious side effects include diarrhea that is watery or bloody, or severe redness, burning, stinging, or scaling of treated skin areas. These are not all the possible side effects of Cleocin T. In case of any unexpected effect, consult your healthcare professional immediately. Get emergency medical attention if you have signs of an allergic reaction, including hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
