What Dosages and Forms is Carafate Suspension available in?

Carafate Suspension is available in a dosage of 200 mg/ml/500 ml.

What is Carafate Suspension used for?

Carafate Suspension (sucralfate) is an anti-ulcer medication used to treat active duodenal ulcers. Carafate is not greatly absorbed into the body through the digestive tract. Sucralfate forms a coating over ulcers, protecting the area from further injury. This helps ulcers heal more quickly. It works mainly in the lining of the stomach by sticking to ulcer sites and protecting them from acids, enzymes, and bile salts. Carafate can heal an active ulcer, but will not prevent future ulcers from occurring. Take Carafate as prescribed by your doctor. Carafate is best taken on an empty stomach. Use this medication for the full prescribed length of time, even if your symptoms quickly improve. It may take 2 to 8 weeks before you receive the full benefit of taking Carafate. Carafate should not be taken for longer than 8 weeks at a time.

What Are the Possible Side Effects of Carafate Suspension?

Carafate is unlikely to cause major side effects, but can cause constipation in some cases. If you notice signs of high blood sugar (confusion, drowsiness, increased thirst, increased hunger, flushing, or fruity breath odor), contact your doctor immediately. This is not a complete list of side effects, and others may occur. Contact your doctor about any other side effects you experience.

Are there any Precautions and Drug interactions for Carafate Suspension?

The liquid form of Carafate Suspension should never be injected through a needle into the body. Severe side effects and death can occur.

Avoid taking any other medications within 2 hours before or after you use Carafate, as it can lessen the affect of both the Carafate and the other medications.
