What is Burinex Used for?

Burinex (Bumetanide) is a prescription medicine that prevents fluid buildup in the body due to chronic medical conditions, including heart failure, kidney failure and liver diseases. It reduces the risks of shortness of breath and swelling in your arms, legs, and abdomen associated with these conditions. The active ingredient in Burinex is Bumetanide. Bumetanide belongs to the class of medication called loop diuretics. It works by preventing sodium and chloride reabsorption in Henle's ascending loop, thereby causing the excretion of water and sodium, chloride, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and hydrogen ions. Burinex makes you urinate more as it causes the kidney to excrete the excess fluid in your body.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Burinex?

If you experience any of the following common side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately:
• Dry mouth;
• Feeling thirsty;
• Feeling confused;
• Frequent urination;
• Headache;
• Muscle cramps;
• Weakness

Stop using Burinex and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
Orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in the blood pressure while standing up);
• Ringing sensation in your ears;
• Severe muscle cramps;
• Severe constipation;
• Serious skin reactions (including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis);
• Urinary incontinence

This is not a complete list of the adverse effect of Burinex. Kindly reach out to your doctor or pharmacist if any of the above-listed side effects last longer than usual or get worse.

Are there any Precautions and Drug Interactions for Burinex?

Before taking a Burinex tablet, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or have other allergies. Burinex is a tablet and should be taken orally with or without food. It would be best to avoid foods with a lot of salt (processed foods or ready meals) and salt substitutes. It can affect how your medicine works.

You should follow your prescription carefully and use it according to your doctor's instructions. It is recommended to take Bumetanide once a day, usually in the morning or afternoon or twice a day, in the morning and afternoon, depending on the severity of your condition. However, it is recommended not to take Burinex late in the evening to prevent you from going to the toilet frequently. Continue to take Bumetanide even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Bumetanide without talking to your doctor. Depending on the nature of your condition, you may take Burinex for a long time, even for the rest of your life. You should discuss with your doctor if there is no improvement in your symptoms or your condition last than expected.

You should not take Burinex and inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or have had:
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Difficulty with urination;
• Gout;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease (including hepatitis B infection);
• Low blood pressure or you are using antihypertensive medicines

Tell your doctor if you become pregnant or plan to get pregnant while using Bumetanide medication. During pregnancy, Burinex should be used if prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor would discuss the risks and benefits of using Bumetanide as a pregnant woman. It is unknown if Burinex passes into human breast milk. Discuss with your doctor before use and use with caution as a nursing mother.
Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements, to prevent drug interactions which might be fatal to your health. This interaction may make your drug less effective, cause adverse effects, or potentiate other drugs' actions. For example, there may be a drug interaction between Burinex and other medications, such as:
• Desmopressin;
Digoxin;
• Indomethacin;
• Lithium;
• NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, and aspirin;
• Probenecid
