What is Bosulif Used for?

Bosulif (Bosutinib Monohydrate) is a prescription drug used to treat adults with a type of leukemia known as Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myelogenous leukemia (Ph+ CML) who have been recently diagnosed or have not responded to prior treatments. Protein tyrosine kinase inhibitors, such as bosutinib, belong to a class of kinase inhibitors. Bosutinib inhibits the growth and spread of cancer cells by altering enzymes that have a role in cancer cells. Bosulif is a targeted treatment that binds to tyrosine kinase receptors within the cell and inhibits BCR-ABL and SRC kinase receptors. Bosulif disrupts a critical mechanism that promotes cell division by interacting with these receptors. It can be used to treat people with blast crisis (sudden attack), accelerated phase (rapid growth), or chronic phase chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) long-term illness. Bosutinib may be utilized when other tyrosine kinase inhibitors have failed to work or have not been tolerated and are not acceptable for long-term treatment.
