What is Akynzeo Used for?

Akynzeo (Netupitant/Palonosetron) is a combined prescription antiemetic used to treat and prevent nausea and vomiting commonly associated with chemotherapy in people that are being treated for cancer. The active ingredients in Akynzeo are Netupitant and Palonosetron. Netupitant is a substance P/Neurokinin 1 (NK1) antagonist while Palonosetron is a serotonin (5HT3) antagonist. Akynzeo works by blocking natural substances (substance P/neurokinin 1, and serotonin) which cause nausea and vomiting. Treating excessive vomiting prevent electrolyte derangement and consequent sudden cardiac death that may occur.
