Vimovo Storage and Safety Information
Store Vimovo at room temperature away from extreme heat and moisture.
If Vimovo causes diarrhea, it may be sign of a new infection. Do not use anti-diarrhea medication unless your doctor gives you the okay.
Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medication, as it can raise your risk of stomach bleeding.
Do not take aspirin while on Vimovo.
Do not use this medication just before or after heart bypass surgery.
Naproxen can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, particularly if it’s taken long-term or in high dosages, or if you have developed heart disease. Even patients without heart disease or other risk factors could have a stroke or heart attack while taking Vimovo.
Naproxen can also cause stomach and/or intestinal bleeding—which can be fatal. This can happen without warning, particularly in older adults.
Taking a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), such as the esomeprazole in this medication, may increase your risk of bone fractures in the hip, wrist, or spine. This has happened mostly in patients who have taken this medication for a long time or in high dosages, and who are older than 50 years old.
Vimovo should not be taken while pregnant or nursing. It may harm the unborn baby. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing before considering this medication.
Seek emergency help or call Poison Control at 1-800-463-5060 immediately if you suspect an overdose. Symptoms of overdose include:
• Vomiting;
• Stomach pain;
• Severe weakness;
• Confusion;
• Sweating;
• Fast heart rate;
• Dizziness;
• Bloody or tarry stools;
• Weak or shallow breathing
Vimovo is not approved for anyone under the age of 12 years old, or weighing less than 38 kilograms (84 pounds).
